Video, VPN tool adoption spikes month-over-month
Task management platform Okta recently released the mid-year update to their 2020 @Work Business Report, and the findings tell a familiar story: The recent meteoric rise in cloud and SaaS adoption has been hard to ignore, and is challenging IT to seek out new solutions.
As expected, cloud-delivered UCaaS and collaboration applications continue to see unprecedented growth over the past few months, besting already impressive adoption estimates compiled for Okta’s 2020 @Work Report before global stay-at-home orders went into effect.
Zoom has experienced a 110 percent increase in usage among Okta customers from February 2020 to March, the report found, making it the biggest growth leader during the period, while RingCentral ranks sixth with 39 percent growth and Cisco Webex is in seventh with 37 percent growth.
Along with collaboration tools and video conferencing apps, network security solutions like VPNs that extend secure access to remote workers have seen the largest adoption during the global pandemic.
VPN tool Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect, for instance, experienced 94 percent growth in March over February, compared to 20% for that same period in 2019, while Cisco’s AnyConnect VPN solution was close behind with 86 percent growth.
It’s important to note that Okta determined growth based on the percentage increase in the number of unique users who logged in at least once during the 30-day period, while looking primarily at workforce usage. This is important because the findings don’t take into account the non-workplace weight that bandwidth-heavy apps like UCaaS solutions may be putting on residential connectivity at worker’s homes, where workers don’t have access to enterprise-level network speeds.
This exponential growth in app adoption – specifically where SaaS and cloud applications are concerned – makes it more critical than ever that teams have visibility into end-user experience where these apps are being used. And with more workers signing on from home than ever, teams need agile, easy-to-deploy solutions that can track visibility from central network points out to any remote workstation.
