What happened with TraceView?

On September 1st, 2016, SolarWinds acquired AppNeta’s TraceView product & technology along with the core development and support teams who joined SolarWinds as full-time employees.

SolarWinds provides powerful and affordable IT management software to customers worldwide from Fortune 500 enterprises to small businesses, government agencies and educational institutions.

The addition of the TraceView technology addresses a critical need for SolarWinds: monitoring the application layer of web-based infrastructures. This acquisition also positions its Monitoring as a Service (MaaS) offering – Pingdom, Librato and Papertrail – as a key vendor of choice among DevOps as well as traditional IT professionals with a hybrid IT need to monitor apps in the cloud.

SolarWinds is excited to be entering the web-based APM market and looks forward to investing in TraceView to further enhance its functionality and integrate it into the company’s MaaS portfolio.

For the immediate future, there will be very few changes. Over time, the SolarWinds team will continue to operate and evolve the TraceView technology as a key component to their overall DevOps strategy. The TraceView (Tracelytics) co-founders, Dan Kuebrich and Chris Erway, along with the core team that has built and supported TraceView, have joined SolarWinds and will continue to innovate, support, and delight you.

What Happens Next With AppNeta?

Our mission remains the same: market and passionately support the world’s very best SaaS-based solution for application performance insight and end user experience monitoring for your business critical applications. Our focus will be narrowed and honed to IT Ops and Network Ops via our PathView, AppView, and FlowView products. You’ll see these expand in brand new capabilities, additional deployment options, and overall faster time to joy.

With the exception of no longer seeing “TraceView” in the unified user interface, there will be little to no other immediate changes in the service or user experience. For customers that have both TraceView and other AppNeta products, you’ll still be able to enjoy them both, but you will need to authenticate to two different services.

Moving forward with our sharpened focus, AppNeta customers can expect to see an increased rate of innovation and improvement in no small part driven by your requests and feedback (thanks to the thousands of locations and millions of network connections we’re already managing on your behalf ...) while we continue to build upon the highly differentiated foundation you’ve come to know and depend upon.

To that end, we’d love to share our roadmap with you, so I encourage you to reach out to your Account Executive or Customer Success Manager to schedule a 1:1 so we can get into the details. Or email me directly at mstevens@appneta.com - I’d love to hear from you.

I want to personally thank each of you for believing in our application performance vision and helping to shape TraceView into what it has become today. I’d also like to congratulate and thank the TraceView team as they continue on their journey. They built a world-class APM solution which will only get better in Solarwinds’ capable hands.
